Data Uploader is installed and run using Java Web Start.

Java Web Start is a technology which allows you to install and run any Java software by clicking on a link on a web page.

To run Data Uploader, open http://tdu.globaltraceability.net/ in your web browser and click the Launch button. If asked by the browser what to do with the file, choose to run with Java Web Start (javaws). 

Start the Application

After the first run, shortcut icon is created on your desktop. You can use the icon to run the application or you can run it from http://tdu.globaltraceability.net/, at your option.

Under Windows Vista “localhost” is not understood in default network setup. If web console fails to load, you may have to use the IP address of your computer instead of “localhost”. To determine the IP address of you computer, open a command prompt and type:

ipconfig

On Linux, the shortcut icon on the desktop is not executable by default. Right-click on the icon, choose Properties, then Permissions. Here you can allow execution.

For environments that support System Trays, Data Uploader will be available on the System Tray with two menu options as shown below:

Open Web Console: Launches the web console and takes you to the Data Uploader login page

Quit Data Uploader: Quits Data Uploader.

 

For systems that don't support System Trays there is window launched when Data Uploader starts which can be used to open the web console or quit the application.

Immediately after Data Uploader starts it takes a few seconds to be ready for use and a notification pops up when you can access the web console. For systems that don't support the System Trays the "Open Web Console" button is enabled only when Data Uploader finishes initializes and becomes ready for use. Issues: Service Unavailable Error

Sometimes Data Uploader may fail to deploy and as a result you may come across the HTTP Error 503 (Service Unavailable) when trying to access the Web Concole. Clearing the Java Cache and downloading Data Uploader afresh will fix this. Details on how to clear the Java Cache can be found here. Downloading Data Uploader when your network connection is stable can easily avoid this issue as well.
